WBASK Osei, Chaput honoured for academics
WATERLOO, Ont. (February 6, 2014) - Two members of the No. 9 Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks women's basketball team were recently recognized for their outstanding academic work as they announced as the recipients of two prestigious awards.

Fourth year guard Lee Anna Osei of Toronto, was named the recipient of the Vasha Award of Distinction, an award handed out by Wilfrid Laurier's History department for active contribution and academic success in the history program as well as demonstrated community involvement.

Fellow fourth year guard Bree Chaput of Guelph, Ont., was named one of the 20 recipients across Canada of the McGraw-Hill Ryerson Scholarship, an award which recognizes student who enhance the learning environment at their college or university through strong academic and person integrity, as well as classroom engagement and initiative.

"I am very proud of the academic achievements that both Lee Anna and Bree have been honoured for," commented Golden Hawks head coach Paul Falco. "Both of these individuals are leaders not only on the court, but as these awards demonstrate, off the court as well. They truly represent what it means to be a student-athlete here at Laurier."

Both Osei and Chaput have played critical roles in the success of the 14-4 Golden Hawks this season. Osei, Laurier's starting point guard, is averaging 5.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game while Chaput, another of Laurier's starting guards, is averaging 5.9 points per game while shooting an impressive 45.5 percent from the floor.
