Brooker, Allin named Athletes of the Week

WATERLOO, Ont. (January 20, 2014) - Women's hockey forward Laura Brooker of Fergus, Ont., and men's basketball guard Max Allin of Chatham, Ont., have been named the Laurier Bookstore Athletes of the Week for the week ending January 19, 2014.

Brooker became the sixth player in Wilfrid Laurier team history to record 100 points this past week. The Golden Hawks' team captain opened the week with a two assist effort against the Ryerson Rams, her fifth multi-point game of the season, as the No. 3 Golden Hawks won 4-2. The fourth year english major then picked up an assist in the Hawks' 3-2 shootout loss to the Toronto Varsity Blues to give her 20 points on the season.

This is the third time this season, and sixth time in her career, that Brooker has been named the Female Athlete of the Week.

Allin helped the Golden Hawks to a 1-1 record this past week. In the Hawks' 98-88 win over Brock on Wednesday, the fifth year arts major had one of his strongest games of the year, shooting 45 percent (9-20) from the floor for 23 points to go along with 10 rebounds as he recorded his third double-double of the season. Allin followed that up with 16 points, eight rebounds and four assists in Laurier's 87-69 loss to No. 6 McMaster.

Allin earns Male Athlete of the Week honours for the second time this season and 15th time in his career.
