WATERLOO, Ont. (November 25, 2013) - Women's basketball guard Laura Doyle of Guelph, Ont., and men's hockey forward Tyler Stothers of Oakville, Ont., have been named the Laurier Bookstore Athletes of the Week for the week ending November 24, 2013.
Doyle had a big weekend on the road to help the Golden Hawks to their best start in nine years. The fourth year kinesiology and physical education major had 16 points and two rebounds in a 58-49 win over Carleton before scoring a career-best 19 points while shooting 50 percent (6-for-12) from the field in a 74-67 win over No. 7 Ottawa. The two wins moved the Hawks to 7-1 on the season and helped them post their best record in cross-over play since competition against the OUA East division began in 2001-02.
This is the second time in her career that Doyle has been named the Female Athlete of the Week.
Stothers was instrumental in helping the Golden Hawks post an upset victory on Friday night. The third year communications studies major scored a pair of goals as Laurier defeated No. 5 McGill 4-3 in Montreal. He followed up that performance with an assist in a 4-2 loss to Ottawa to extend his point streak to four games, during which time he has eight points.
Stothers takes home Male Athlete of the Week honours for the first time in his career.
