Bishop wins gold at McMaster Invitational
HAMILTON (October 21, 2013) - Men's golfer Jacob Bishop of St. George, Ont., became the first Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks to win individual gold at a tournament in six years when he captured first place at the McMaster Invitational this past Thursday.

Bishop fired a one-under par 69 to lead the field in the final event before the OUA Championships. His finish guided the Hawks to a third place team finish at the event as Laurier enjoyed its best tournament of the season.

The three other members of the team to score for the Hawks on Thursday were Austin Ryan of Owen Sound, Ont., Gordon Elder of Toronto, and Ronald Foxcroft of Burlington, Ont. Ryan finished tied for seventh after firing a three-over par 73 while Elder and Foxcroft shot 74 and 78 respectively.

In the women's event, Laurier finished fifth after shooting a team total of 289. Alexandra Medeiros of Burlington, Ont., was the Hawks top finisher as she shot an 86, good for ninth overall.

Laurier will now host the OUA Championships beginning on Monday, October 21. The two-day tournament will be co-hosted by Grey Silo Golf Course and Cambridge Golf Club, with the men's event being competed at Grey Silo and the women's running at Cambridge.
