WATERLOO, Ont. (October 7, 2013) - Women's soccer forward Emily Brown of Waterloo, Ont., and men's football quarterback James Fracas of Waterloo, Ont., have been named the Laurier Bookstore Athletes of the Week for the week ending October 6, 2013.
Brown was unstoppable this weekend as the Golden Hawks earned wins over Waterloo and Windsor. The third year business major, who entered the weekend with four goals on the season, score a school-record five goals in Laurier's 5-0 win over the Warriors. She followed that up with two more goals in the Hawks 4-0 win over the Lancers. Her unbelievable performance, which saw her score on seven of the 10 shots she took, moves her into second in the conference with 11 goals on the season.
This is the sixth time in her career that Brown has been named the Female Athlete of the Week.
Fracas was a force for the Hawks in their near-upset of the No. 5 Queen's Gaels on Saturday. The second year business major threw for 359 yards and four touchdowns, both career highs, as the Golden Hawks lost 40-34 in overtime. Fracas was instrumental in getting the game to overtime as he drove Laurier down field and tied the game with an 18-yard touchdown pass to Greg Nyhof with 15 seconds left in the fourth quarter.
Fracas earns Male Athlete of the Week honours for the first time in his career.
