WATERLOO, Ont. (September 16, 2013) - Women's lacrosse midfielder Shelby O'Ryan of Burlington, Ont., and men's football running back Dillon Campbell of Whitby, Ont., have been named the Laurier Bookstore Athletes of the Week for the week ending September 15, 2013.
O'Ryan was instrumental in helping the Golden Hawks pick up their first win of the season this past weekend. After losing their opener to Guelph, the Hawks responded in a big way as they defeated York 16-3. O'Ryan, a fourth year psychology major, led the Hawk's offensive outburst as she recorded six goals in the win.
This is the third time in her career at Laurier that O'Ryan has been named the Female Athlete of the Week.
Campbell was a beast for Laurier as they earned their first win of the year, a 41-10 victory over Waterloo. The third year kinesiology and physical education major rushed for 180 yards and two touchdowns, and added three catches for 24 yards in just three quarters of action. The 180 yards were a new personal single-game best and he now sits second in the conference in rushing yards with 383.
This marks the first time that Campbell has been named the Male Athlete of the Week.
