WATERLOO, Ont. (September 9, 2013) - Women's soccer midfielder Jessica Craig of Pickering, Ont., and men's soccer goalkeeper Brett Harrington of Tillsonburg, Ont., have been named the Laurier Bookstore Athletes of the Week for the week ending September 8, 2013.
Craig set up a pair of goals for the No. 8 ranked Golden Hawks in their 3-1 victory over the Brock Badgers on Wednesday evening. The first year communications majors speed caused havoc for the Badgers defence and it was her efforts that led to Katie Bishop's penalty kick goal as well as Emily Brown's second goal of the game.
For Craig, she earns the Female Athlete of the Week award for the first time and in just her second week as a student-athlete.
Harrington was named Man of the Match for Laurier in their 0-0 draw with the Windsor Lancers on Saturday. Earning his third shutout of the season already, the geography major turned away all nine shots he faced as he helped the Hawks earn their second point of the week. On Wednesday, Harrington made five saves as Laurier came back to earn a 2-2 tie with the Brock Badgers. His play has the Hawks currently second in the OUA West division with a 2-0-2 record.
This is the first time in his career that Harrington has taken home Male Athlete of the Week honours.
