Dell, Anthony taken in 5th round of CFL Draft
TORONTO (May 6, 2013) - Two members of the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks were drafted into the Canadian Football League (CFL) on Monday afternoon as the league held its annual Canadian College Draft.

Full back Isaac Dell of Niagara Falls, Ont., was the first Laurier player selected as he led off the fifth round being selected 37th overall by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. The 6-1, 218 lbs., graduate of Stamford Collegiate had a breakout season for the Hawks, making 16 catches for 226 yards while adding 20 rushes for 106 yards. At the CFL E-Camp back in March, Dell put in a strong showing as he finished third overall in both the broad jump and 3-cone drill.

Two picks later, receiver Alex Anthony of Victoria, B.C., was drafted by the Saskatchewan Roughriders, a team with a history of cultivating strong, Canadian receivers including former CIS players Andy Fantuz and Rob Bagg. The 6-2, 205 lbs., graduate of Mount Douglas SS was the Hawks top receiver in 2012 as he made 21 catches for 300 yards and two touchdowns. He made his case to the CFL scouts back in the 40 yard dash at the CFL E-Camp where he put up the eighth fastest time, clocking a time of 4.626 seconds.

With Dell and Anthony both being selected on Monday, Wilfrid Laurier now ranks seventh among Canadian universities for number of CFL draft picks since 2000. Over the past 13 drafts, 23 Golden Hawks have graduated to the CFL ranks via the draft including a pair of first round picks in Shamawd Chambers (2012) and Justin Phillips (2007).
