Thunder, Hawke named Athletes of the Week
WATERLOO, Ont. (February 11, 2013) - Women's hockey goaltender Erika Thunder of Buffalo Point, Man., and men's hockey forward Trent Hawke of Wiarton, Ont., have been named the Laurier Bookstore Athletes of the Week for the week ending February 10, 2013. Thunder stopped 39 of 40 shots to help the No. 4 Golden Hawks clinch first place in the OUA with a 3-1 win over No. 7 Queen's. The 39-saves represent the most the second year arts major has made in a game during her two year career and helped her earn her 13th win of the season. Her 13 wins and 0.938 SV% this year are the second best in the league and her 1.56 GAA is tops amongst goalies with 10 or more starts. This is the second time in her two years with the Hawks that Thunder has earned Female Athlete of the Week honours. Hawke closed out his rookie season in style as he netted three goals and an assist as the Golden Hawks went 1-1 in their final two regular season games. The first year arts major had a goal in the Hawks 3-0 shutout win over Guelph before adding two goals and an assist in Laurier's 6-5 loss to UOIT. The four points extends his point streak to 5 games, the third time he's managed a streak that long this season, and gives him 23 points (11 G, 12A) on the year, good to finish ninth in the rookie scoring race. Hawke earns Male Athlete of the Week honours for the first time in his career. |
