WATERLOO, Ont. (February 4, 2013) - Women's hockey forward Paula Lagamba of Toronto, and men's hockey goaltender Ryan Daniels of Pickering, Ont., have been named the Laurier Bookstore Athletes of the Week for the week ending February 3, 2013.
Lagamba tied a career-high with four points in a game as the No. 4 Golden Hawks defeated the Brock Badgers 8-0 on Saturday. The fourth year economics major had a goal and three assists in the win to give her four goals and 12 assists on the season.
This is the first time this season, and second time in her career, that Lagamba has earned Female Athlete of the Week honours.
Daniels continued his stellar play as the red-hot Golden Hawks won twice more on the weekend to move into a tie for fifth place in the OUA West. The fourth year business major opened play on Thursday with a 35 save effort as Laurier defeated the York Lions 3-1 to help the team clinch a playoff berth. He followed that up with 39 saves against the Brock Badgers as the Hawks won 3-2 in overtime. With 74 saves on 77 shots this weekend, Daniels now owns the fourth-best save percentage in the OUA at 0.921 and tops amongst goalies with 15 or more games played this season.
