WATERLOO, Ont. (November 26, 2012) - Women's basketball guard Amber Hillis of Hamilton, and men's basketball guard Maxwell Allin of Chatham, Ont., have been named the Laurier Bookstore Athletes of the Week for the week ending November 25, 2012.
Hillis led the Golden Hawks to a pair of wins this past weekend. Friday against York, the sociology major scored the game-winning bucket in overtime as Laurier edged York 70-68. She finished the game with 11 points, two rebounds and two assists. In Saturday's 66-55 win over Laurentian, Hillis matched a career-high with 15 points to go along with three rebounds and two assists. The fifth year guard is now averaging a career-high 10.4 points per game this season.
This is the first time at Hillis has been honoured as the Female Athlete of the Week.
Allin moved into third place on Wilfrid Laurier's all-time scoring list this past weekend as the Golden Hawks went 1-1. On Friday night, the arts major scored 29 points to eclipse the 1,000 point plateau for his career as the Hawks defeated York 96-94. He also added 12 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season. Saturday against Laurentian, the fourth year guard scored 20 points to move past Wade Currie in Laurier's history books, while adding nine rebounds. Allin continues to lead the OUA in scoring this season through the Hawks' first five games, averaging 24.0 points per game.
This is the third consecutive week that Allin has earned Male Athlete of the Week honours and 10th time in his career.
