Golf team announces training camp and tryouts

WATERLOO, Ont. (Aug. 8, 2012) - Wilfrid Laurier Golf head coach Jim Zwolak announced today the training camp and tryout information for the upcoming season.

This year's Golden Hawk Golf training camp will be held on Friday, August 31 and Saturday, September 1 at Grey Silo Golf Club. The camp is an opportunity to meet the coaches and see the golf course in advance of the tryout. There are limited spots in the tryout and preference will be given to players who have attended camp. Players can expect to be evaluated on all aspects of the game both in practice and on-course situations. Both male and female players are encouraged to attend. At minimum, players will leave camp with a good idea on how to improve their golf in the coming years.

For the men's golf team, tryouts will be held on Wednesday, September 5 and Thursday, September 6, during Orientation Week. Again, spots in the final tryout will be limited to the top recruits, players with a strong competitive resume, and players who have performed at the training camp. This will be a 36-hole competition.

Training camp is $150, covering 36 hole green fees, meals both days and access to all evaluations and coaching feedback. Tryouts are $100 for the 36 hole event.

Incoming first year student athletes (including freshmen, transfer students, and WLU students not in first year who have not participated in an interuniversity sport) are required to have completed, by a physician, the Initial Health Assessment Form before they participate in an interuniversity sport, which includes the first try-out. Forms can be found by clicking on the following link: http://www.laurierathletics.com/therapy/TF1.pdf

Returning student athletes are required to complete the Veteran Athlete Health Assessment Form, before they participate in interuniversity sport, which includes the first try-out. This form updates the student athlete's medical history over the past 12 months. Forms can be found by clicking on the following link: http://www.laurierathletics.com/therapy/TF-VET.pdf

Any athlete who has been prescribed any medications must declare them on their medical questionnaire.

Interested golfers should send an email, including competitive resume, handicap factor, home course, coach, and any other pertinent information to head coach Jim Zwolak at jimzwolak@gmail.com.
