SHERBROOKE, QC - Bishops University announced the appointment of Brian Breckles as Director of Athletics and Recreation. A business professional, a proven leader and relationship builder who actively participates in the promotion and development of sports, Breckles will assume the role immediately. He returns to Bishops where he held the positions of Offensive Line Coach and Recreation Coordinator between 1990 and 1994.

Im thrilled to be returning to Bishops. Im very excited to have been chosen to lead the Department at a time when so many important changes are on the horizon, said Breckles. There have been a number of developments on the Quebec interuniversity sports scene. I look forward to getting started and couldnt be more grateful for the opportunity.

Breckles holds a B.A. in Physical Education and an M.B.A from Wilfrid Laurier University. Comprised of corporate and academic experience, Breckles professional experience includes the position of Vice President of Business Development at National Group Mortgages since 2009 and Director of Alumni Relations at Wilfrid Laurier University for seven years prior to transitioning into the private sector. . While at Laurier, Breckles was a centre for the Golden Hawks football team from 1985-1989, earning All-Canadian honours two years in a row. Drafted by the Argonauts, Breckles instead chose to pursue his passion for coaching, amassing 14 years in various CIS coaching roles and winning a Vanier Cup with the 2005 Laurier Golden Hawks.

I am thrilled to have Brian join our team of Student Affairs directors. Brians passion and enthusiasm for Bishops combined with his leadership and experience will drive our Department of Athletics and Recreation to a new level, said Jackie Bailey, Dean of Student Affairs. Brian is committed to providing exceptional sport and recreational opportunities for the entire community. A two-time All-Canadian athlete and winner of a Vanier Cup as a coach, Brian has both the experience and personal drive to push our Gaiters to achieve excellence.

The role of the Director of Athletics and Recreation has evolved and the current mandate includes leading the department as renovations are set to begin at the John H. Price Sports Centre and the Sherbrooke 2013 Canada Summer Games approach.
