Bishop T-14th at national golf championship
VICTORIA, B.C. (May 31, 2012) - Second year golfer Jacob Bishop of Dundas, Ont., sits in a tie for 14th after shooting a second round 73 to sit at 3-over at the 2012 Canadian University/College Championship, conducted by Golf Canada and hosted by Cordova Bay Golf Course.

Bishop, who is representing Laurier for the first time at the event, followed up his first round 72 with another strong round in which a 1-under 34 on the back nine helped him finish 2-over for the day. His 3-over total leaves him trailing individual leaders Scott Secord from the UBC Thunderbirds and Simon McInnis from the Waterloo Warriors by just six strokes.

Fifth year golfer Matthew Farronato of Hamilton, rebounded from a tough opening round to shoot a 4-over 75 on Friday afternoon, the Hawks second best individual score on the day. Brett Murray of Newmarket, Ont., and James Seymour of Aurora, Ont., also both managed to break 80 on the day as Seymour fired a 77 while Murray shot 78.

Rookie Jordan Oudyk of Oshawa, Ont., Laurier's fifth golfer at the event, finished the day with an 83.

As a team, the Hawks matched their opening round score of 19-over as they once again shot a team total of 303 to sit in a tie for 11th with the Guelph Gryphons at 38-over. The Waterloo Warriors grabbed a slim one shot margin over the Laval Rouge et Or and hold the lead after 36 holes at two-under-par.

Laurier will need a strong performance in Thursdays third round if they hope to make the cut to Sundays final round. The top 10 teams continue on to Round 4 as well as individuals with 15 shots of the lead. The Hawks will begin teeing off at 8:20 a.m. PST Thursday with live results available on Golf Canada's website.
