Allin dominant again as Hawks beat Lancers
Laurier: 79 Windsor: 77
WINDSOR, Ont. (February 1, 2012) - The No. 5 Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks (15-2) overcame a slow start Wednesday night as they were able to hang on and defeat the Windsor Lancers (11-6) by a score of 79-77.
After scoring just 30 points in the opening half, the Hawks matched that total in the third quarter alone. Maxwell Allin of Chatham, Ont., went on a 7-0 run by himself at the end of the quarter to give Laurier an 11 point lead.
However, the Lancers would storm back on the strength of 21 fourth-quarter point from Enrico Diloreto of London, Ont., to cut the lead to two and had a shot to tie the game in the final seconds but just came up short thanks to some strong defence by the Hawks.
Allin was once again outstanding running the Laurier offence on this night. He posted a double-double, his second in the last five games, of 21 points and 10 rebounds and fell just one assist shy of a triple-double as he had nine on the night.
Matthew Buckley of Waterloo, Ont., and Patrick Donnelly of Oakville, Ont., also had double-doubles for Laurier as Buckley scored 12 points and had a game-high 18 rebounds while Donnelly had 11 points and 13 rebounds. As a team, Laurier outrebounded the Lancers 60-42 on the night.
Kale Harrison of Stratford, Ont., chipped in with 18 points on the night for the Hawks.
Diloreto finished as the game's leading scorer as he had 23 points for Windsor.
Laurier will look to extend their winning streak to seven games on Saturday afternoon when they host the McMaster Marauders at the Athletic Complex. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m.
