WATERLOO, Ont. (October 20, 2011) - On the strength of a 22 point performance from Matthew Buckley
of Waterloo, Ont., the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men's basketball team defeated the Cape Breton Capers by a score of 86-83 Wednesday night at the Athletic Complex.
Buckley was a force in the paint all night for Laurier as he finished the game 10 of 15 from the floor while also pulling down five rebounds.
Rookie guard William Coulthard of Oakville, Ont., also reach double-digits in scoring, finishing with 13 points, four rebounds and four assists.
Maxwell Allin of Chatham, Ont., was the Hawks leading rebounder with eight.
Capers guard James Dorsey of Baltimore, Md., was the game's leading scorer as he poured in 38 points to go along with seven assists and four rebounds.
The Hawks are now 6-1 in non-conference action and will look to carry their strong play into this weekends tournament at the University of British Columbia. Laurier opens the tournament Friday night at 10 p.m. Eastern against the host Thunderbirds. The Golden Hawks will then face the UFV Cascades on Saturday night before taking on the Thompson Rivers Wolfpack on Sunday afternoon. All three games can be viewed live at www.canadawest.tv
