SAARLOUIS, Germany (August 8, 2011) - Former Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks women's basketball player Renata Adamczyk of Greensville, Ont., has signed a professional contract to play for the TV Saarlouis Royals next season.
Adamczyk, a two-time OUA West Defensive Player of the Year, joins the Royals after finishing her Laurier career as one of the top players to ever don the purple and gold. Her 1,328 career points ranks her second all-time at Laurier and eighth all-time in the OUA.
"I am very excited for the opportunity to continue playing basketball," said Adamczyk. "This has been a goal of mine and it is nice to reach a new level of play. I will miss playing as a Golden Hawk but will continue to follow the team for years to come."
The Royals were one of the top clubs in Germany last season, finishing third in the regular season before bowing out to the eventual champions, TSV 1880 Wasserburg, in the league semifinals.
"It's great to know that Renata will have an opportunity to experience another part of the world while continuing to play the game she loves," commented Golden Hawks head coach Paul Falco
. "She has worked extremely hard to prepare herself to play professionally overseas, and playing for a top level 1st division team in Germany, will allow her to continue to mature both on and off the basketball court."
Along with being a two-time winner of the OUA West Defensive Player of the Year, Adamczyk was also a three-time OUA All-Star, a four-time team MVP and the 2010-11 recipient of the OUA Joy Bellinger Award for her outstanding service to womens basketball and to the advancement of university athletics.
