UOIT beats Hawks in a Shootout

OSHAWA, Ont. The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks lost in a shootout to the UOIT Ridgebacks. The 2-1 victory gives UOIT a 3-6 record, while the Hawks fall to 4-2-1.

The first period was relatively quiet as the teams exchanged minor penalties. Both squads failed to capitalize in the frame.The Hawks went 0-5 on the power play, while the Ridgebacks went 0-4.

The Ridgebacks Josh Vatri (Barrie, Ont.) bulged twine with a shorthanded marker in the second. The Hawks responded with a shorthanded goal of their own by Benjamin Skinner (Markham, Ont), his first of the season.

In a battle of endurance, both teams could not pot a game winning goal in the third. After three periods of play, the Hawks out shot the Lancers 29-21. Both teams could not capitalize in five minutes of overtime, so the game went to a shootout.

243 were in attendance to see the home team pull off a victory. In the win, Jeff Dawson (Bracebridge, Ont), made 31 saves. Ryan Daniels (Pickering, Ont.) made 22 stops in the overtime loss.

The Hawks next game is on November 5th against Lakehead. The match begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Fort Williams Gardens in Thunder Bay.
