WATERLOO, Ont. - The defending OUA champions will not be able to defend their title after a 4-0 loss to the Brock Badgers that ended any chance for the Golden Hawks to make the playoffs.
On Saturday, Laurier drew a nil-nil tie with the visiting McMaster Marauders.
In the final game of the regular season the Hawks were ravaged by injuries to some of their top players. Against Brock striker Ben Clifford (Milton, Ont.), midfielder Hugo Hernandez (Markham, On.t) & goaltender Jarrett Humphreys (Waterloo, Ont.) were all on the bench to start. Team captain Alex Doma (Burlington, On.t) was also felled by injury early in the game.
While the shots favoured the Golden Hawks 9-7 in the match, Laurier spent most of the game pressuring the Badgers in their own end, but were unable to capitalize on their chances. Toale Ryan made several tough saves to earn the shutout.
Brock’s Tomislav Leko (Mississauga, Ont.) scored the first goal for the visitors at the 13 minute mark. Andrew Nimtsiv (Courtice, On.t) followed that up at the 30 minute mark to give the Badgers a 2-0 lead at the half.
The visitors continued to capitalize on their opportunities with Nick Ianiri (Hamilton, Ont.) scoring at the 61 minute mark and Aldo Lombardi (Ancaster, Ont.) concluding the scoring three minutes later.
Laurier will graduate fifth year forward Kwaku Addo-Abedi, goalie Ben Goes, defenseman Scott Carson and midfielder Sylvestro DeFrancesco.
