Wilfrid Laurier University is proud to announce the newest crop of Laurier Football players. There is speed, toughness, size, athleticism and experience in a group that has very talented high school grads and a number of transfers who will bring some leadership qualities as well as their proven skill on the field.
The addition of this group along with the very competitive returning class will guarantee Laurier will have another great year on the field.
Michael Knill
Offensive Lineman 6- 5, 315 lbs - A transfer from University of Michigan (His High School was Adam High School in Rochester Hills, Michigan). Michael went to Michigan State originally but decided to pursue academics at U of M. . He set a team record of 48 x 225 .in Bench press. Michael is one of the few players ever to make the team at Michigan State and U of M and he did it as a walk on. Expect to see Michael on the field early!
Julius Jones Carter
Running Back 5-8, 180 lbs - A graduate from Turner Fenton High School in Brampton. Julius has outstanding speed, quickness and cut back ability He is a crafty runner who follows blocking well and will be capable of piling up big yardage in the CIS. Julius will compete early for a Jersey
Kellen Aiken
Linebacker 6-1, 225 lbs - Kellen returns from CGEP’s Vanier College where he’s had an outstanding career. Kellen (originally a Guelph boy) is a devastating hitter who is physically dominant on the field.
Adam Hofstetter
Offensive Lineman 6-4, 340 lbs - Adam is a transfer from Southwestern Baptist University in Missouri. He attended high school at Cypress Lake HS in Fort Meyers, Florida. Adam will bring great size, athleticism and toughness to compete for the Golden Hawks. He will challenge to dress very early!
Jesse Lindsey
Running Back 6-0, 185 lbs - Another grad from Markham District HS joins our roster. Jesse, a dominant player in LOSSA, will bring great speed and toughness to our roster. He will compete early to dress.
Nick Sapone
Linebacker 6-1, 215 lbs - Another Ontario boy who’s been a force in CGEP with Vanier College signs with the purple and gold. Nick is a great run stopper who can also play on the edge, rush the passer and he is highly effective in coverage.
Russ Jirgins
Wide Receiver 5-11, 180 lbs - A Toronto Star all-star from Nelson High School in Burlington, a perennial powerhouse program. Russ will bring game breaking speed to our talented receiving group.
Garet Dickinson
Offensive Lineman 6-4, 265 lbs - Comes to us from DR. GW Williamson where he was a standout O-Lineman and also often used as a fullback. His speed and athleticism make Garet one of the best high school linemen of 2009.
Lucas Cordick
Defensive Back 5-10, 175 lbs. A west coast boy from Richmond B.C. comes out of Vancouver College to call Laurier his new home. A British Columbia provincial all-star. He is a complete player who is capable of playing Laurier’s predominately man coverage. He is also very physical against the run.
Keegan Alexander
Linebacker 6-3 225 lbs. A heavily recruited player from St Thomas Aquinas in London. Keegan has been a two way player who doubled as a power fullback for STA. He has long been regarded as one of London’s best high school players.
Dennis Lyte
Defensive Back 5-11, 175 lbs - Dennis played at Mount A and then more recently Jr Football with the Burlington Braves. He was scouted during the Canadian Jr. Football Championship where he was one of the best athletes on the field. Dennis’ maturity and leadership will be great assets. Dennis is a shut down corner who can match up with anyone.
Ethan Fournier
Linebacker 6-0 185 lbs - A skilled backer emerging from Medway High School with excellent speed and quickness. Ethan will compete at Sam or Will. He’s excellent in pass or run situations.
Delbert Williams
Defensive Tackle 6-3, 300lbs - Another west end player from St Marguerit D’ Youville. This big man will challenge for playing time early with his excellent size and athleticism.
Mark Harris
Defensive Back 6-3, 180 lbs - From Local and Western Bowl Champion Resurrection High School. Mark will compete with our group of outstanding defensive backs. His height and athleticism are tremendous assets.
Tommy Griffiths
Defensive End 6-3, 235 lbs - Yet another Brother Andre player joins our roster . Tommy’s excellent height and quickness off the ball will make him a force to be reckoned with .
Matt Lilja
Offensive Lineman 6-5, 260 lbs - A local product of the very successful Resurrection team that won the 2008 Western Bowl. Matt will add excellent size and depth to our O-Line unit
Bobby Troop
Fullback 6-1, 195 lbs - Out of Banting in Alliston, he is continuing the family tradition of his Dad who is all-Canadian and CFL alumnus Alex Troop. Bobby will distinguish himself with his hard nosed play and toughness.
Sydney Odum
Linebacker 6-2, 200 lbs - A transfer coming here from Ryerson. Sydney was a standout player at Dunbarton HS in Pickering who took a strictly academic path. Now he will join us to combine that with football as well. Sydney is a fast, fluid athlete who will compete to be our Sam Linebacker.
Shaun Fitzpatrick
Defensive Tackle 6-2, 275 lbs. - From Oakville and St Thomas Aquinas via CGEP’s Vanier College. Shaun will reinforce the middle our defensive line which is expected to be a very strong unit this year.
Greg Dix
Linebacker 6-0, 210 lbs - Out of North Park C & VS in Brantford. Greg is a tough competitor who’s particularly strong against the run. His ability to get to the ball will be a great asset on special teams as well.
Mark Harris
Defensive Back 6-3, 180 lbs - A local from Resurrection and a Western Bowl Champion. Mark will compete in our group of outstanding defensive backs. His height and athleticism are tremendous assets.
Sean O’Brian
Fullback 5-11, 220 lbs - A Resurrection player who made an impact both ways (FB & Linebacker ). He is an extremely tough physical player who loves to hit. Sean will also be a big contributor on specials when he dresses.
Graeme Holdsworth
Quarterback 6-0, 200 lbs - He graduated from Forest Heights and has played for Team Ontario. He is currently playing for Team Canada in the European Tournament . Graeme brings good experience and an impressive arm to our quarterback group.
Kwasi Kwajah
Fullback 6-2, 230 lbs - From St Jean De Brebeuf in Hamilton. Kwasi is a superior athlete who played QB in High School but will run take on a new assignment in the offense for Laurier. His versatility and athleticism will be a huge plus for this offense.
Steve Fantham
Quarterback 5-10, 170 lbs - A good young quarterback out of AB Lucas Steve. He has poise and an excellent release (from a family of athletes his older brother is a QB at McMaster University) . He will compete with our returning QBs behind a veteran offensive line.
Alex Sanchez
Slot back 6-4, 195lbs - A Toronto Star all-star from Richview Collegiate, mentored by Ray Tone a Laurier alumnus. Alex is a big target with great hands who will catch in heavy traffic and catch balls over the middle. Expect big things in the Red Zone from him as well.

Ramone Whitely
Defensive Back 5-8, 165 lbs - Graduating from one of the GTA’s new west end powerhouses St Marcellanous in Mississauga. Ramone is a tremendously tough competitor with speed and quickness.
Rob Malott
Receiver 6-1 195 lbs - A product of the always competitive Bluevale High School. Takes up the torch from his brother BJ who graduates this spring . Rob is a an excellent route runner who will be a consistent, productive receiver.
Troy Burey
Receiver/ Running Back 5-10, 180 lbs - A speedster who hails from Newtonbrooke in Thornhill. Game breaking speed along with the ability to contribute in running situations makes him a valuable addition to our offense.
