AQUATICS COORDINATOR SUMMER (FULL-TIME)

The Aquatics Coordinator / Head Lifeguard is responsible for the hiring, training, scheduling, and supervision of all Lifeguards in accordance with National Lifeguard Standards and Ontario Public Pool Regulations. They will work with the Coordinator of Programs with all aspects of aquatics programming, staffing,and the management of pool bookings. Previous experience with aquatics safety and swim instruction,pool operations, and supervision is required. JUMP AND GOLDEN HAWK SPORTS CAMP COORDINATOR

The two camps work with children ages 5-14 years of age in sessions throughout the summer. The Camp Coordinator is responsible for all aspects of JUMP and the multi-sport operation including curriculum planning, hiring and training, supervising counselors, payroll, communication with parents and aspects of marketing and promotions. The successful candidate will have demonstrated comunication, organizational and leadership abilities in a Camp setting with children, have a sport playing and teaching background, and experience dealing with parents.

JUMP AND GOLDEN HAWK MULTI-SPORT CAMP COUNSELLOR

View the Description in PDF formatThis position will see you as a counsellor for both JUMP (Junior University Multidisciplinary Program) and the Golden Hawk Sports Day Camp. JUMP works with kids ages 9-14 and the Multi-sport camp teaches children ages 5-12. Therefore it is important that you are able to work with children from both age groups. JUMP runs in May and June and the Multi-Sport camp will
run in July and August. Both focus on teamwork and sportsmanship using a variety of sports, fitness activities, events, tournaments and games. Camp Counselors design, lead and supervise the children in these activities under the direction and supervision of the Camp Coordinators. A broad knowledge of sport skills and games and proven leadership experience are required. Successful candidates will have extensive Camp and/or sport participation or coaching experience, a passion for teaching children, can function well in a team, are dedicated and hard working, and possess a fun, energetic personality. Valid CPR/1st Aid certifi cation and police checks are required for employment.

HAWK DESK ATTENDANT FALL/WINTER 2012-2013

View the Description in PDF formatWLU Athletics & Recreation is home to a multi-purpose sport and fitness centre that provides programs and service for the Laurier community and external clients.  The Hawk Desk Staff provide essential front line customer service to all of our clients 7 days a week, up to 20 hours per day.   This includes providing program and facility information, assisting and leading in the execution of all facility rentals, equipment issues, security checks and access control, and assisting with aspects of daily facility operations and maintenance.  The successful candidate will have previous customer service experience, be reliable and team oriented, possess a strong work ethic and an outgoing personality.  Learning outcomes will include, communication skills, critical thinking, quick response, leadership skills and task creation.

CLIMBING WALL COORDINATOR

Among the many activity areas in the Athletic Complex is an indoor rock climbing wall. The purpose of a Climbing Wall Coordinator is to supervise and organize the climbing wall staff and teach basic climbing techniques. We expect the coordinator to implement current climbing wall standards and procedures and ensure the safety of all climbing wall participants. The Climbing Wall Coordinator will organize and deliver Climbing Wall Group Bookings in addition to promoting the recreation climbing wall program. This recreation program in intramual activity requires dedicated and organized student leadership to supervise and manage all aspects of the program planning and delivery, including the hiring, training, and supervision of 3 Head Referees and numerous student referees. The Hockey Coordinator is an outgoing and reliable student that must also be very adept at communications and conflict resolution with team captains, and a large staff team of their peers. STADIUM HAWK DESK ATTHENDANT FALL/WINTER 2012-2013

INTRAMURAL COORDINATOR FALL/WINTER

Each year 6,000 students on 500 teams in up to 35 sport leagues participate in WLU Intramurals. These recreation programs in intramual activity requires dedicated and organized student leadership to supervise and manage all aspects of the program planning and delivery, including the hiring, training, and
supervision of 10-15 student Referee-In-Chief (RIC) League Conveners and over 40 student referees. The Intramural Coordinator roles are shared amongst 2 outgoing and reliable student leaders that must also be very adept at communications and conflict resolution with team captains, and a large staff team of their peers. The successful candidate will also be required to assist with the development of league schedules, promotions, program registration, development and implementation of sport rules and policies and procedures.

DANCE INSTRUCTOR FALL/WINTER

WLU Athletics & Recreation offers a wide variety of instructional dance classes including: Latin, Ballroom, Hip Hop, Tap, Jazz, Ballet, Lyrical, Compeititve, Contemporary, and more! Instructors lead a weekly 1 to 1.5 hour class which culminates at the end of the term with a Dance Showcase Open House performance of a routine the class has assembled and learned.
Instructors are expected to conduct a high energy and fun class that assists participants in learning and improving new dance skills. The successful candidates will have previous dance performance and teaching experience with a passion for sharing their knowledge and skills with others and assisting in helping to grow and promote the program.

INTRAMURAL REFEREE-IN-CHIEF FALL/WINTER

Each year approximately 6000 students on 550 teams in 35 sport leagues participate in our Intramuals. The Intramual Referee-in-Chief (RIC) organizes and coordinates a specific sport league, hires,trains, evaluates league referees, liases with Captains and ensures smooth operation of league and playoff games. RIC’s are part of a team of approximately 16, who help deliver
competitive and co-rec sport leagues under the direction of the Intramural Coordinators and Recreation Program Coordinator.
